On the morning of Saturday, December 7th, the Mandarin Inn was filled with a strong atmosphere of learning as our first “Analects Reading Club” kicked off with great enthusiasm. Students from both China and abroad gathered together to study and read The Analects of Confucius, discussing the era of Confucian thought and the different philosophical perspectives of notable thinkers from the Hundred Schools of Thought period. Teacher Shi began by introducing the history from 1046 BCE to 221 BCE, covering the Western Zhou, Spring and Autumn, Warring States, Qin, and early Western Han dynasties, explaining how each of these dynasties was established, their unique characteristics, and some key historical events that took place. Master Shi also provided a detailed introduction and analysis of the Spring and Autumn period, during which Confucius’ philosophy emerged.
12月7日周六上午，Mandarin Inn这里弥漫着浓浓的学习氛围，我们第一期的《论语读书会》热烈地开场了，中外的学员朋友们聚集在一起，学习和品读《论语》，探讨孔子思想的年代以及百家争鸣时期各个思想代表人物不同的思想观点。施老师先介绍了公元前1046年至公元前221年间，西周、春秋、战国、秦朝和西汉初期不同朝代是如何建立的，这些朝代各自不同的特点和历史上发生过的一些事件，同时，对于孔子思想出现的春秋时期也做了详细的介绍和解读。

At the event, Master Shi introduced how ancient China’s agrarian civilization was primarily concentrated in the North China Plain along the Yellow River and in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. These two regions served as the stage for the various powers during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods. Confucius’ home state of Lu was located in this central area, which also marked the starting point of his journeys to different states.
施老师现场向大家介绍了作为古时农耕文明的中国主要聚集在黄河流域的华北，还有长江流域的中下游地区，这两块区域也正是中国的春秋战国时期各方势力活动的舞台。孔子所在的鲁国就处在这一核心区域，也是孔子周游列国的开始。

Master Shi introduced the golden age of Chinese intellectual history, highlighting the flourishing Hundred Schools of Thought during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, spanning several centuries. Among these schools, the seven most renowned and influential ones are Confucianism, Daoism, Mohism, Legalism, Military Strategy, Diplomacy, and Yin-Yang. The thinkers from these various schools offered their perspectives on the issues of the time and proposed corresponding solutions. The participants listened attentively and took careful notes.
施老师向大家展示了中国思想史上的黄金时代，在春秋战国时期的几百年间，出现的百家争鸣的盛况，最为著名和最有影响力的七家：儒家、道家、墨家、法家、兵家、纵横家和阴阳家。这些不同流派的思想家他们对当时时代问题的看法，以及他们相应的解决方法，在场的大家都积极聆听，并认真做了记录。

Master Shi explained to everyone that the content of the Analects we see today was recorded by Confucius’ students, primarily compiled by his disciples Zengzi and Youzi, as well as their own students. Therefore, the understanding of Confucius we get from the Analects may not represent the full picture of Confucius, but rather the version of him seen through the eyes of Zengzi and Youzi.
施老师说及我们看到的论语的内容是他的学生们记录下的，主要是由孔子的学生曾子，有子，以及曾子和有子的学生们编撰的，所以我们由论语了解的孔子，不一定是孔子的全貌，而只是我们通过曾子和有子的视角看到的孔子。

In the rich atmosphere of winter, we gathered here to study and discuss the Analects, delving into Confucian thought, exploring agrarian China, and immersing ourselves in the ideas of Confucius that have influenced China for thousands of years. Everyone actively interacted and engaged in lively discussions throughout the event.

Reading Club as a Bridge for Cultural Exchange读书会促进文化交流
The Analects reading club, as a cultural exchange activity, allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the ancient Chinese culture and philosophical thought behind it. Through this book club, people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds were able to experience the charm of Chinese culture together. Culture knows no boundaries—here, we read together, connect with one another, and learn together.
