Introduction：Learning Mandarin is a journey full of unique experiences and challenges. For many, it’s not just about mastering vocabulary and grammar, but also about immersing oneself in the culture and daily life. Leti, a friend from Spain, shares her experiences of learning Mandarin in China and how she continuously improves through daily interactions. Below is an interview with her, where she discusses her learning journey and insights.

M：你好！请先做一下自我介绍吧。
M：Hello!Could you please introduce yourself?
Leti：我的名字是Leti，我来自西班牙。以前我是一名采购技术员，但在2024年4月，我和家人搬到了中国。从6月开始，我在Mandarin Inn学习中文，目前正在学习HSK1。
Leti: My name is Leti, and I’m from Spain. I used to work as a purchasing technician, but in April 2024, my family and I moved to China. Since June, I’ve been studying Mandarin here at Mandarin Inn. I’m currently learning HSK1.
M：你为什么来中国？
M：Why did you come to China?
Leti：我和家人因为丈夫的工作搬到了中国。在这里，我全心全意地照顾我2岁的儿子。
Leti：I moved to China with my family because of my husband’s job. Here, I am fully dedicated to taking care of my 2-year-old son.
M：你认为外国人学习普通话有用吗？为什么？你为什么想学习普通话？
M：Do you think it is useful for foreigners to learn Mandarin? Why? And why you’d like to learn Mandarin?
Leti：我认为学习中文在中国的日常生活中非常重要和有用。由于这里大多数人不讲英语，能够用中文沟通帮助很多。无论是和邻居交谈、打车还是购物，懂一点中文让一切都变得更容易。
Leti：I think learning Mandarin is very important and useful for daily life in China. Since most people don’t speak English here, being able to communicate in Mandarin helps a lot. Whether it’s talking to neighbors, taking a taxi, or shopping, knowing some Mandarin makes everything easier.
M：作为一个好学生，你是怎么学习普通话的？能举个例子吗？你愿意分享一下你的学习技巧吗？
M: As a good student, how do you learn Mandarin?could you give an example？Would you like to share your tips?
Leti：老实说，我希望我能比现在有更多的时间学习。然而，我尽量通过和楼里的阿姨、邻居以及在超市里练习中文，充分利用我的时间。正是这些日常的小互动让我不断进步。
Leti：Honestly, I wish I could study more hours than I currently do. However, I try to make the most of my time by practicing Mandarin with the ayi in my building, with my neighbors, and at the grocery store. It’s small daily interactions that keep me improving.
M：你想谈谈你的老师吗？你喜欢他/她吗？老师的哪些行为会激励你学习普通话？
M：Would you like to talk something about your teacher, do you like him/her? And What kinds of teacher’s behavior will encourage you to learn Mandarin?
Leti：我的老师Ping太棒了！她总是愿意回答我的问题，教我一些我特别感兴趣的词汇或话题。她还经常讲解很多关于中国文化的内容，我觉得非常有趣且很有帮助。
Leti：My teacher, Ping, is amazing! She is always willing to answer my questions and teaches me vocabulary or topics that I’m particularly interested in. She also explains a lot about Chinese culture, which I find fascinating and really helpful.
M：你很少请假，是什么让你坚持上课的？我们有很多在线资源，你用过吗？你觉得这些资源怎么样？
M: You seldom ask for leave, what encourage you are keeping doing classes ? and we have many online resources, have you used it, and how do you feel about it?
Leti: 我保持动力的原因是自己看到的进步。当我能够正确地说出简短的句子并与当地人互动，即使是很少，我也感到很自豪。至于在线资源，我还没有使用过，但我计划在圣诞假期期间去探索它们。
Leti: What keeps me motivated is the improvement I see in myself. I feel proud when I can make short sentences correctly and interact, even a little, with local people. As for the online resources, I haven’t used them yet, but I plan to explore them during the Christmas break.
M：我们每个月通常会举办一次工作坊，你觉得怎么样？你有什么建议吗？或者你对哪些主题感兴趣？
M: We are doing workshop normally once a month, how do you feel about it, and do you have any suggestion, or do you have any subject you are interested?
Leti：我还没有参加过很多工作坊，但它们听起来是个很好的主意。我很希望能看到专注于会话练习或像中国节日和传统这样的主题的工作坊。
Leti：I haven’t attended many workshops yet, but they sound like a great idea. I’d love to see workshops focused on conversational practice or topics like Chinese festivals and traditions.
M：你在学习中文的过程中有没有遇到什么有趣的经历或挑战？
M：Do you have any interesting experiences or challenges while learning Mandarin?
Leti：我学习中文最大的挑战之一是听力。无论是在课堂练习中还是在现实生活中，都感到很困难。不过，我决定继续练习！
Leti：One of the biggest challenges for me is listening. It’s difficult both during class exercises and in real-life situations. But I’m determined to keep practicing!
M：最后，请说一句你最喜欢的中文句子，为什么？
M：Finally, please say a your favourite Chinese sentence, and why.
Leti：“Zhōu mò kuài lè” (周末快乐) 是我最喜欢的句子。它的意思是“周末快乐”，我觉得它听起来既欢快又好听。
Leti：“Zhōu mò kuài lè” (周末快乐) is my favorite phrase. It means “Happy weekend,” and I think it sounds really cheerful and nice.
