1.The Dream of Red Mansion

《红楼梦》It is one of the four great ancient Chinese masterpieces, ranking first in the Chinese novel rating list. “Dream of the Red Chamber” is an encyclopedia-style novel. Taking the love tragedy of Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu as the main thread and the rise and fall of the four major families as the background, this article depicts various aspects of feudal society in 18th-century China, as well as the emergence of emerging capitalist democratic ideas under feudal dictatorship. The structure is grand, the plot is tactful, the details are exquisite, the character images are lifelike, and the voice is vivid, making it a classic in ancient Chinese novels.

2. The Road to Dune.  《通往沙丘之路》

It was recommended by the Chairman of the APM Charity Organization. Let’s check out why he was drawn to this book deeply.

“Well, the ‘Road to Dune’ is an alternative story to the first Dune, the book by Frank Herbert. It has been written by Brian Herbert (the son of Frank Herbert) and Kevin J. Anderson. The original story is based on some file Brian found in his father’s archives, a short novel, written before Dune and never published.

It is set in the Universe of Dune, with most of the Characters present and about the same situation: Duke Leto is sent to take care of the planet Arrakis to manage the Spice production instead of his archnemesis cousin Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. Same intrigue as the published Dune, but the story is much simpler as it doesn’t involve Bene Gesserit or Kwisatz Haderach, Paul here is just a normal kid, and Duke Leto is the main character here. And that’s why I love that book! That’s why I want to share it with you. I needed more of the Duke, and here it is, served on a Plate: The Duke we know from the original book, but not feeling helpless a single bit by the situation and ready to give a sweat to Barons and Emperors alike. Who knows, he might even beat them at their own game.”

4.Finding the Way to China  《寻路中国》

This book is the most popular travel literature, telling the experience of Peter Hessler, an American, driving around the Chinese Mainland.

“Finding the Way to China” is the final song of his Chinese documentary trilogy. These three books span a decade, from 1996 to 2007. It explores the economy, tracks the source of development, and explores individual responses to change. It studies the core issues of China, but does not achieve this goal by interpreting famous political or cultural figures, nor does it engage in macro and inappropriate analysis. It believes in showcasing the essence of China’s transformation by recounting the experiences of ordinary Chinese people. Peter often stayed in one place for several months or even years to track changes. He not only listened to Chinese people telling his own stories but also kept his eyes wide open as different people’s stories unfold in front of him.
