It is widely acknowledged the fact that China has undergone a massive development in the last decades. One of the major contributing factors is the good education system that the country has. The key to a successful education system lies in the excellent educator behind it. Therefore, this week the Chinese are celebrating Teacher’s Day(教师节 jiào shī jié) as a form of tribute to the teachers who have made significant contributions to the country.
To start off, you can simply say 老师辛苦了 lǎo shī xīn kǔ le to your teachers, which expresses your gratitude for all their hard work.

EFFECTIVE TIPS & TRICKS TO LEARN CHINESE:
1. Learn from the basics
You must have heard the saying ‘trust the process’(信任整个过程xìn rèn zhěng gè guòchéng). This should be applied when learning Chinese. To master the language, you must first learn the basics of it, such as strokes (笔画笔顺 bǐ huà bǐ shùn)、radicals(偏旁 piān páng)、 pinyin(拼音 pīn yīn)、 and intonation (声调 shēng diào).
To do so, you can practice your character writing on a big box notebook. You can also practice the vocabulary repeatedly to ensure you achieve perfect pronunciation.
After going through every step of the process, you will then realize you have mastered the language in no time. Once you have a solid foundation, learning the next step will only get easier.
2. Take notes every time you meet new vocabulary (生词 shēng cí)
- Read books or e-books (电子书 diàn zǐshū), take note of the vocabulary, and search for the meaning.
- Bookmarks and various online dictionaries are available to assist you in learning Chinese.
- Make flashcards to memorize the vocabulary, you can utilize free software on the internet to do so!

3. Set your objectives and be consistent!
Determine what is the goal of learning this language, whether it is to engage in daily conversations, do business, or simply just for additional skills. You can start learning the vocabulary related to the field, so you can directly apply it, practice makes perfect (熟能生巧 shú néng shēng qiǎo)!

4. Immerse yourself into the culture, and fall in love with it
The learning process will be more enjoyable once you love the culture! To speed up your learning pace, try listening to Mandarin music(音乐 yīn yuè), tune into Chinese podcasts(播客 bō kè), and watch Chinese drama(电视剧 diàn shì jù).
These will not only increase your vocabulary but will also hone your listening ability and make you get used to Chinese intonation and grammar.
Scrolling through Chinese social media such as 抖音 dǒu yīn and 小红书 xiǎo hóng shū might be a good start to understanding the culture deeper.

5. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
